At the primary campus of Columba Catholic College, we promote a student centred culture that recognises parents as partners in learning and authentic, collaborative and positive relationships are fostered. Our curriculum program and teaching strategies plan to align teaching and learning to identify what students need to know, do and think in order to successfully demonstrate competency against the learning area Achievement Standard of the Australian Curriculum.
Teachers provide pedagogy which caters for different learning styles, individual needs and character strengths are ascertained and promoted. A variety of groupings are encouraged to engage students (e.g. individual, small group and whole class). Teachers strive to provide timely, appropriate and effective feedback to all students throughout the learning process. The Early Years Education programme aims to guide students in their first year of schooling through teaching interactions with others, experimentation, practice and play in the classroom. Priority is given to literacy and numeracy development as these are the foundations upon which further learning is built. Our programme recognises that play is a vehicle for learning of young children and that children will learn directly through hands-on experience.
